Haptics for VR
The Problem: When you push on a virtual object, it doesn’t push back
Our Solution: The simultaneous constriction of “antagonist” and “agonist” muscles using TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) mimics physical obstruction.
In our demo, when a user pinches a virtual green ball, certain muscles in their forearm are stimulated by TENS to provide resistance to their pinching motion.
Our Design: My partner, Sreyash Das Sarma, and I made our haptics system and a corresponding augmented reality app for the Apple Vision Pro. Check out the detailed information behind the design of our project on our website.
Highlights of our project include presenting our system to members of the Apple Vision Pro team and filing a provisional patent.
